The Lusaka National Museum
POLITICAL HISTORY MUSEUM
The Lusaka National Museum is themed as a Political History Museum. It was established as national Museum in 1996. The museum was established to document the political history of the country. The museum has three major research wings namely Archaeology, Ethnography and History. The Museum has permanent exhibitions and regularly hosts temporary exhibitions from other stakeholders and even embassies in Lusaka. The Museum has a very active education department that organises different tourism packages for pupils and clients to the museum throughout the year.
The museum also has library that is open to members of the public and scholars to use. There is a children’s library also available for the young visitors to the museum.
PAST AND PRESENT PRESIDENTS
Kenneth Kaunda (1964–1991)
The founding president of Zambia after independence in 1964. Ruled for 27 years under a one-party state system until his defeat in the 1991 multi-party elections.
Frederick Chiluba (1991–2002)
Zambia's second president and the first under the multi-party democracy. Known for economic reforms and liberalization, though his tenure faced corruption allegations.
Levy Mwanawasa (2002–2008)
Focused on anti-corruption campaigns and economic growth. Died in office in 2008 due to a stroke.
Rupiah Banda (2008–2011)
Succeeded Mwanawasa and continued economic policies. Lost the 2011 elections to Michael Sata.
Michael Sata (2011–2014)
Known as "King Cobra" for his fiery speeches and advocacy for the working class. Died in office in 2014 after serving for three years.
Edgar Lungu (2015–2021)
Took over after Sata’s death and won re-election in 2016. His administration focused on infrastructure development, though criticized for economic challenges.
Hakainde Hichilema (2021–present)
Current president of Zambia, elected on a platform of economic reform, anti-corruption, and fostering unity.
