Our Story
The NMB was established by an act of Parliament Cap 174 of the Laws of Zambia. The main functions of the National Museums Board are to establish, develop and manage museums on a sustainable basis, for the preservation and interpretation of Zambia’s movable heritage. The National Museums Board is a statutory body under the Ministry of Tourism. The NMB has a Board of Directors appointed by the Minister of Tourism to oversee the operations of museums.
The operations of the five (5) national museums are monitored and controlled by the National Museums Board. The five national museums are Livingstone Museum, Lusaka National Museum, Copperbelt Museum, Moto-Moto Museum and Choma Museum and Crafts Centre. The Board, in its seating on 29th December 2023, instructed Management to produce a document outlining the various themes of the National Museums in Zambia.
