CULTURAL HISTORY MUSEUM

The Choma Museum and Crafts Centre is themed as a Cultural History Museum. The Choma Museum and Crafts Centre was established in 1972. It was formerly called the Tonga Museum and Crafts Centre as its prime objective was to preserve the regional cultural heritage and empower local communities through crafts development and trade. The museum was declared as a national museum on 12th November 2015.
The museum has two main research wings namely Ethnography and History. The museum has both ethnographic and historic exhibitions in the gallery. Visitors will have a chance to learn the rich history and culture of the people of Southern Province. Some important events such as the Choma Declaration are elaborated in the exhibitions. The museum also has an active education department that develops and implements programmes for schools and the public. Additionally, the museum has a marketing and crafts development section. Visitors to the museum will have an opportunity to by a variety of unique, beautiful and high-quality crafts from the museum crafts shop.
